Women's World cup 2015: US silence colombia as English lionesses also make history...

The United States may have humbled their colombian counterparts by 2 goals to nil at the commonwealth stadium, Monday night but it was the 28th best ranked team in the world who came out with faster and quicker footwork, good technical ability and those shifty passes all but showed their creativity and flair.
The colombians came into this game hellbent on holding a referendum on style and the prowess of the US women's national team. But they won though and the US would leave to see another round. They got the first goal from Alex Morgan while Carli llyod added a penalty to ensure the victory was signed, sealed and posted. The US would now face an old foe in China on Friday in a quaterfinal match at the Ottawa stadium.

Also the English Lionesses made history by having their first ever knockout win against Norway with a strong second half finish in Ottawa. Norway had gone ahead early in the Second half when 34-year-old veteran midfielder with 184 caps to her name, gave Norway the opening goal early in the second half after they had dominated play territorially without being able to cash in on that edge but England replied with captain Steph Houghton bringing the Three Lionesses level as she fought through traffic to head home from a corner. But it was relative international newcomer Lucy Bronze, getting the call at right back from coach Mark Sampson, who struck the 2-1 game-winner with 14 minutes of normal time remaining, hitting the top right corner from outside the box. It was as good a goal as the tournament has seen and decided a game that Norway long controlled only to lose the script after taking the lead. See the game highlights below...
