It was reported that Cavani might leave the tournament, however, Berta Gomez, Cavani's mother, stated on Uruguayan radio 1010am, that Cavani will remain in Chile for the duration of Uruguay's participation in the tournament.

However, in the early hours of Tuesday he was pronounced dead as details of the incident emerged, including allegations that the PSG striker's father tested positive for being over the legal alcohol limit.
