Arsenal want Reus (we're calling bulls**t), Newcastle want £15m Rolan, Spurs make Veretour offer and more...
ARSENAL WANT REUS
It would be hugely arrogant to believe that England is the best in the world at anything, and that can include the peddling of transfer bulls**t. If you want to dine on the finest spurious claims, head over to Italy.
Tuttomercatoweb, that bastion of transfer rumour accuracy, claims that Arsenal will aim to sign Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund before the window closes. That has been hungrily feasted upon by the Metro, Daily Express and the like.
Let's face it - Arsenal aren't going to sign another attacking midfielder. They're going to have enough problems fitting Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck into the same side as it is.
NEWCASTLE WANT ROLAN
Here is a rumour we can get on board with, namely Newcastle in the race for Bordeaux's Uruguayan striker Diego Rolan.
Rolan was the subject of reported interest from Aston Villa, but it seems that Newcastle are also making their move. He does play in France, after all.
It's not just hearsay (pure and simple), either. "There has been contact with Newcastle, but never directly with us, only through various intermediaries," Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud said. "With Newcastle, I suppose you could say there is some truth in their interest."
This is all lovely, but can someone shake Steve McClaren and remind him that his side are seriously short on defenders?
SPURS MAKE VERETOUT OFFER
In the age of the internet, the three words that nobody wants to say are these: "I don't know."
With that in mind, let me come clean - I know very little about Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout. In fact, I only knew that he was French and played for Nantes. Captain clued-up.
So, we're all learning: 'Jordan Veretout (born 1 March 1993 in Ancenis) is a French footballer who plays for French club Nantes in Ligue 1. He plays as a midfielder. Veretout made his professional debut on 13 May 2011 in a league match against Sedan. He made his first start the following season in the team's opening match of the campaign; a 1-0 extra time win over Reims in the Coupe de la Ligue.[2] Veretout is a France youth international having represented his nation at under-18 and under-19 level.' Every day is a school day.
Anyway, Tottenham are preparing to offer €15m for him, apparently.
