German International
Sami Khedira has expressed his delight at joining Champions League finalists Juventus
and insists he doesn't see his move from the Los Blancos to the Old lady as a
backward step in his career.
The 28-year-old
joined the Serie A champions on a four-year contract at the beginning of the
month after leaving Real on a free transfer.
During his five
years at the Bernabeu the German International won the Spanish La L Liga title once,
the Copa del Rey twice and the UEFA Champions League in 2014. Juventusmeanwhile re-established themselves as a European force
in their run to the Champions League final last season a run which included the Italian giants knocking
Real out at the semi-final stage and Khedira believes that reason, associated
with the quality of the Italian top-flight, means his move to Turin is another
positive one in his career.
'I wanted a fresh challenge and Juventus
give me just that,' the Germany international told reporters. 'They're
on the same level as Real Madrid.
'It will be a real honour for me to play in this league. It's a tough championship and full of strong sides.
'I don't consider the Italian league to be inferior. It's a high-quality championship and tactically challenging.
'Juve have displayed their ability to compete with top European clubs. I'm here to reach another Champions League final.'
