Nigerian Premier League roundup: Enyimba, Wikki Tourist close in on Sunshine stars at the top

Nigerian Premier League roundup: Enyimba, Wikki Tourist close in on Sunshine stars at the top

Aba based club Enyimba International caught up with their Akure based counterparts Sunshine Stars following their 3-1 win over the table-toppers in the midweek round  of fixtures in the Nigeria Premier League Wednesday.
Enyimba were already two goals up at the stroke off half time leaving Sunshine Stars with a huge mountain to climb in the second half. Stephan Eze put the ball into his own net in the 36th minute and the people's Elephant's doubled their money right on the stroke of half time through Nzube Anaezemba.

Enyimba continued from where they stopped  in the second half as Ezekiel Bassey made it 3-0 for the Aba landlords barely three minutes into the restart and at that point their was really no going back for Sunshine Stars.
Tunde Adeniji pulled one back for Sunshine though, but it was obviously not enough to deny the People’s Elephant’s maximum points on the day as they now have 33 points from 18 games, same as Sunshine Stars who now only hold on to top spot on the log as a result of  better goals .
Closing down on  Sunshine and Enyimba meanwhile is Wikki Tourist who forced Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw in Kano.
Wikki also have 33 points from 18 games but have an inferior goals difference compared to both Sunshine and Enyimba at the top.
In other games, Kwara United clinched the most surprising result in the midweek round of games as they defeated Nnewi moneybags FC Ifeanyi Ubah 2-1 away from home.
The Afonja Warriors just sacked their manager, Tunde Abudul Rahman and was handled by a new technical crew, It did not deter the team though as they ran out emphatic winners against the Nnewi Club away from home.
