Guardiola supports Laporta's bid to be Barcelona President

Joan Laporta is bidding to return to the Camp Nou for a second spell as Barcelona president.

Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has publicly supported Joan Laporta's bid for a second spell as club president. Laporta spent seven years in the top job at Camp Nou between 2003 & 2010, during which time he put Guardiola in charge of the senior squad.

The former Blaugrana midfielder had no previous experience of coaching at the highest level, having only had a year coaching the B team under his belt.
The gamble paid off spectacularly, with Guardiola leading Barcelona to a historic treble in his first season at the helm, and the current Bayern Munich boss remains very grateful to Laporta for taking a chance on him.

Consequently, the 44-year-old trainer would like to see Laporta prevail in next month's presidential election.
"All the aspiring candidates are good, but I can't hide my personal ties and affection with Joan Laporta," he told reporters at a public event in Manresa.
"He was the man who gave me a chance as Barca coach."
Laporta will be going up against current Barca president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, but Jordi Majo and Augusto Benedito are also expected to run.
