Major sponsor of FIFA drink giants Coca-Cola have suggested that FIFA's top man at the helm Sepp Blatter step down so that "credible and sustainable reform" can "begin in earnest" a view echoed by fellow sponsor McDonald's who revealed his resignation would be "in the best interest of the game".
But Blatter, who is due to step down in February when a successor is elected, is defiant and has rejected the calls for him to go…..he sure loves that seat right, who wouldn’t.
A statement from Blatter's lawyer Richard Cullen read: "While Coca-Cola is a valued sponsor of FIFA , Mr Blatter respectfully disagrees with its position and believes firmly that his leaving office now would not be in the best interest of FIFA nor would it advance the process of reform and, therefore, he will not resign."
The Swiss who is suspected of criminal over a TV rights deal he signed with former Caribbean football chief Jack Warner who has been recently banned from the game by FIFA in 2005 faced calls for his immediate resignation last month as well, but rejected the demands saying he had done "nothing illegal orimproper".
A statement from his attorney released at the time said: “President Blatter spoke to FIFA staff today and informed the staff that he was cooperating with the authorities, reiterated that he had done nothing illegal or improper and stated that he would remain as president of FIFA."
