Egyptian Sports Minister, Khaled Abdel-Aziz, has revealed and warned that the fans' restriction on football football matches involving the Pharoah’s national teams are gradually easing and the Pharaohs will enjoy massive home support when it plays host to Nigerian Super Eagles in one of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in match.
"Egypt will allow fans to attend any match involving the national team," the sports minister said on Thursday, signaling a possible gradual easing of restrictions on fans' attendance after a crowd ban was imposed following a football tragedy in February.
Abdel-Aziz told reporters that Egypt will enjoy the backing of its fans when it plays home matches in the qualifying campaigns for the 2017 African Cup of Nations and 2018 World Cup, particularly the match involving West Arican giants Nigeria.
The Pharaohs had to do without its supporters when it trounced Tanzania 3-0 in Alexandria in its opening Group G game of the Nations Cup qualifiers in June showing they are still a orce to reckon with when it comes to African football and Mr Abdel-Aziz was just warning the Super Eagles that it’ll be a hostile affair when they go play the Pharoah’s as the country seeks to be top of the group in qualification.
"Fans' support is crucial to Egypt's chances in the Nations Cup and World Cup. The authorities are aware of the importance of having the fans back in the stands and that is why they gave the consideration," Abdel-Aziz added.
"The fans will spur us in our subsequent matches, even as we hope to play Nigeria next year and the world cup qualifiers. This is a good development."
