My claim is basically on the protracted move of french forward Anthony Martial to Manchester United.
Who is Martial?
Well he is a 19-year-old French forward who played in Lyon's academy, making three appearances for their first team, before switching to Monaco in 2013 in a £3.6m move.
After a quiet first season, he enjoyed a better time of it under new coach Leonardo Jardim last time out, scoring 11 goals in all competitions.
Notably, he was part of the Monaco side that eliminated Arsenal from the Champions League – particularly impressing in the 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Any thing really fascinating about him?
Urhmm maybe that he is called the next "Thierry Henry" whatever that means...lol
His got astonishing bags of pace though, a trait highlighted by UEFA in their technical report for the 2013 European Under-21 Championship at which Martial was named in the team of the tournament.
Former Monaco chief executive Tor-Kristian Karlsen expanded on these qualities on Twitter, highlighting Martial's "smart movement, excellent close control and overall technical ability", while praising his ability to make "everything look simple" on the pitch. Karlsen added that Martial is "surprisingly composed in front of goal for such a young player" and that's reflected in the fact that he is "very strong in one-versus-one situations"…selling point
Meanwhile the kid's got faults...
It wasn't all positives from Karlsen. "On the flip side there are issues about consistency, ability to impose himself physically and possibly a certain lack of determination," he wrote on Twitter.
That would appear to be backed up by the views of former Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri who worked with Martial during the teenager's difficult first season at the club.
"He is a great youngster with a great future, but he must change his mind-set," the Italian told a press conference in 2013. "Sometimes the French mentality is, 'Today I play well, maybe I'll play well tomorrow'. No, you must work hard to do your best every day."
How much does he cost?
Earlier yesterday when the news was gathering pace there were conflicting figures as to how much United had agreed to cough up for the lad, but various sources seemed to settle for a fee of around £36 million plus add-ons off course, this actually rang alarm bells as to how United could pay that amount for a kid where there wasn't even any substantive competition for the transfer. Astonishingly though in the evening of the same day reports circling from media outlet canal+ put the transfer cost at a whopping actual cost of £58 million (€80m) which just made me think it's either they had gone bonkers at Old Trafford or there was just something fishy about all this.
Does his abilities ring a bell?
Ooooh his abilities dont just ring bells but also drums up very familiar beats to any seasoned Manchester United fan....remember a certain Danny Welbeck somebody? in my opinion this is just a Welbeck 2.0
My Case is....
So why does Louis Van Gaal who just last summer stated that he felt Danny Welbeck who has been at United since a tender age and is still developing gradually and was also very favoured by Sir Alex was a good player but wasn't good enough goal wise only to go get a Welbeck 2.0 at an astronomical fee. I know what'll go through your mind right now, you're thinking Pogba for christ sakes Pogba's already a fine player and is developing at an exponential rate really then see the grade of the competition for him before you think about the prize please...but Martial who came for him?ooooh Spurs? yes they did earlier in the summer they bid £21million according to the rumour mill but that was all we heard about the lad all summer before Swansea who had already beaten United home and away last season with a 2-1 scoreline somehow surprisingly pulled it off again coming back from behind.
My Verdict
My verdict is simple as stated earlier i don't know Mr. Van Gaal personally but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt its either he is a hypocrite, or he panicked after the Swansea game or he and Ed Woodward are just on some good shit. I think he is more of the first though considering my case. What do you think?
