Today's Transfer Gossip
Harry Kane for Robin Van Persie?
Manchester United will press ahead with a move to sign Harry Kane, Arsenal and Liverpool still want Pedro, and Newcastle want two players for £25million ....
UNITED STEP UP KANE CHASE
Radamel Falcao's already gone, it looks like Robin van Persie will be following him soon, James Wilson is a reported transfer target for Hull and Wayne Rooney is an ageing midfielder. Sergio Ramos and Morgan Schneiderlin may be Manchester United's top transfer targets, but they bloody well need a striker or two.
According to the Sun on Sunday, the club will look to rectify that in the coming days. They report that United have made 'direct contact' with Spurs over the perpetually open-mouthed Harry Kane.
After not even one full season of first-team football at White Hart Lane, there are understandable reservations over the 21-year-old. However, if he was to continue his form of last season he could be an inspired signing. The article goes on to claim that Spurs will want a 'dizzying' fee for their stalwart, confirming that Daniel Levy is indeed still at the club.
Elsewhere at Old Trafford, van Persie's aforementioned move may not go by without a hitch. The Dutchman, according to the Daily Mirror, wants the Red Devils to pay out the final year of his contract, worth £12m, before his Fenerbahce move. Good luck with that, Robin.
PREM BATTLE ON FOR PEDRO
You'd think Pedro signing a new contract at Barcelona would see transfer rumours surrounding him subside. You'd think wrong. Reports in Spain claim that Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool have both been in contact with the 27-year-old's representatives, and the forward hasn't exactly rebuffed them. Spanish newspaper Sport say Pedro is fearful of a lack of game time next season behind Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar. Why he signed a new contract until 2018-19 in that case, we simply do not know.
Anyway, the forward is said to be open to a Premier League move in the instance that he leaves the Nou Camp. It really does seem implausible given the circumstances (why would Arsenal want him and would he join Champions League-less Liverpool?) but the Spain international could yet end up in England.
NEWCASTLE WANT TO ACTUALLY SIGN SOME PLAYERS
I know, we were stunned too.
Some encouraging Sunday morning reading for the Geordies anyway, with reports of bids for two players surfacing. The first is PSV captain and forward Georginio Wijnaldum. The 24-year-old has been courted by bitter rivals Sunderland for much of the summer, but Steve McClaren has a trump card up his sleeve. A lot of money, basically.
That's right. In conjunction with notorious big spender Mike Ashley, Newcastle will bid £15m for the Dutchman.
If the shock has caused you to find the nearest chair, Newcastle fans, then you'd be best to stay seated. The next transfer rumour comes from Ligue 1, with French outlet Sud Ouest reporting that the club have offered £10m for Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan. The Girondins club are likely to hold out for more, the Uruguayan forward having scored 15 league goals last season.
