Former Nigeria international, Waidi Akanni, has expressed concern over the job descriptions allocated to Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Shaibu Amodu, and Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh.
The NFF upon unveiling Sunday Oliseh as the new Eagles boss in Abuja last week, handed him the task of training and organising clinics for coaches in clubs across the country, an assignment which Akanni considers far beyond the coach’s brief.
“It’s amazing that the NFF could take this action in modern- day football,” Akanni told National Mirror in a telephone interview.
“The tasks are clearly defined and there should not be any fuss whatsoever. What has been given to Oliseh is Amodu’s job and except it is streamlined immediately, there will be tension between both men.
“The duty of a coach is to manage the team with a view to ensuring positive results on the pitch and there is nowhere in the world where such coach performs the duty of training other coaches in a federation where a technical director is duly appointed.”
The former Lagos State Football Association chairman, however, acknowledged Oliseh’s technical expertise but insisted that the NFF had tasked the 40-year-old former Super Eagles captain with what he called unnecessarily huge responsibility.
“It is another matter if Amodu has not faulted the arrangement that relegates him. But we should close our eyes to what is clearly abnormal and I sincerely think the earlier the NFF reverses itself on the decision, the better it would be for our football,” Akanni submitted.
